Optical pumping NMR in the compensated semiconductor InP:Fe
The optical pumping NMR effect in the compensated semiconductor InP:Fe has
been investigated in terms of the dependences of photon energy (E_p), helicity
(sigma+-), and exposure time (tau_L) of infrared lights. The {31}P and {115}In
signal enhancements show large sigma+- asymmetries and anomalous oscillations
as a function of E_p. We find that (i) the oscillation period as a function of
E_p is similar for {31}P and {115}In and almost field independent in spite of
significant reduction of the enhancement in higher fields. (ii) A
characteristic time for buildup of the {31}P polarization under the light
exposure shows strong E_p-dependence, but is almost independent of sigma+-.
(iii) The buildup times for {31}P and {115}In are of the same order (10^3 s),
although the spin-lattice relaxation times (T_1) are different by more than
three orders of magnitude between them. The results are discussed in terms of
(1) discrete energy spectra due to donor-acceptor pairs (DAPs) in compensated
semiconductors, and (2) interplay between {31}P and dipolar ordered indium
nuclei, which are optically induced.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Physical Review
Health assessment of rice cultivated and harvested from plasma-irradiated seeds
Abstract This study provides the health effects assessment of rice cultivated from plasma-irradiated seeds. The rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivated from seeds with plasma irradiation showed a growth improvement (slope-ratios of with plasma to without plasma were 1.066, 1.042, and 1.255 for tiller, and earing, and ripening periods, respectively) and an 4% increase in yield. The cultivated rice was used for repeated oral administrations to mice for 4-week period. Distilled water and rice cultivated from seeds without plasma irradiation were also used as control. The weights of the lung, kidney, liver, and spleen, with corresponding average values of 0.22Â g, 0.72Â g, 2.1Â g, and 0.17Â g for w/ plasma group and 0.22Â g, 0.68Â g, 2.16Â g, and 0.14Â g for w/o plasma group, respectively, showing no effect due to the administration of rice cultivated from plasma-irradiated seeds. Nutritional status, liver function, kidney function, and lipid, neutral fat profiles, and glucose metabolism have no significant difference between with and without plasma groups. These results show no obvious subacute effects were observed on rice grains cultivated and harvested from the mother plant that experienced growth improvement by plasma irradiation. This study provides a new finding that there is no apparent adverse health effect on the grains harvested from the plasma-irradiated seeds
Non-strange dibaryons studied in coherent double neutral-meson photoproduction on the deuteron
The B = 2 bound/resonance state (dibaryon) is an interesting object, which can be a molecule consisting of two baryons or a spatially compact hexaquark hadron object. The yd ^ n°n°d reaction has been experimentally investigated at incident energies ranging from 0.58 to 1.15 GeV to study non-strange dibaryons. The angular distributions of deuteron emission in the yd center-of-mass energy cannot be reproduced by quasi-free production of two neutral pions followed by deuteron coalescence. Additionally a 2.14-GeV peak is observed in the n°d invariant mass distribution. These suggest a sequential process such as yd ^ RIS ^ n°RIV ^ n°n°d with an isoscalar dibaryon RIS and an isovector dibaryon RIV. Since the mass of the observed isoscalar dibaryons are close to the sum of the nucleon (N) and nucleon resonance (N*) masses, an S-wave NN* molecule may play a role as a doorway to a dibaryon
